Our Kiwanis club supplies T-shirts to Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary School and Mitchell High School for monthly Caring Kernel prizes. Students are nominated by teachers/staff for leadership, kindness and positive attitude. Students receive a certificate and a Black/Gold Kernel Pride shirt.
Scholarships
Our club awards three scholarships of $500 each to local graduating high school seniors. Funds are sent directly to the student’s school to help with costs for their 2nd semester of higher education. Applications are open in February of each year.
Cozy Blankets of Comfort
Making tied blankets and donating to local first responders is a year-long project for our club. These blankets are distributed to people who are involved in emergency situations. The blankets have personalized labels from our club and are placed in large zip-lock bags to keep them clean in the police/fire/sheriff vehicles.
Little Free Lending Libraries
Our club purchases books at garage sales and other locations to donate to the Little Free Lending Libraries around town. We also assist in repairs when a library is damaged.
Donating Funds
Our club donates funds to many local organizations, such as: Abbott House, SafePlace of SD, Big Friend Little Friend, 1st Circuit Court CASA, Weekend Snack Pack, Park and Rec youth projects, Girls on the Run, Mitchell Schools Caring Closet and Food Pantry, Loads of Love, 4H, LifeQuest, Breaking Bread Ministries, United Way of Mitchell and more!
